Road Cycling Layering Guide

Road Cycling
On the road bike, the headwind is your biggest opponent. Skinfit layering for road cycling keeps the cold out, fits snugly without flapping and wicks moisture to the outside.
Baselayer
On the road bike, the Baselayer sits directly under the jersey and determines your body temperature. It absorbs sweat and wicks it away to the outside, preventing you from getting chilled by the headwind on descents.
Midlayer
The Midlayer keeps you warm on cold rides and wicks moisture away from your body. On the road bike, it needs to fit snugly: every loose fold slows you down and lets cold air in.
Insulationlayer
The insulation provides warmth when your body can no longer generate it itself: at the top of a mountain pass, during a break, or after a breakdown on the side of the road. It packs down small and fits easily into a jersey pocket.
Toplayer
The Toplayer protects you from wind and rain, on the road bike especially at the front, where the headwind hits you. It fits snugly, does not flap and at the same time lets the heat generated on climbs escape.
Pants
On the road bike, your pants determine your comfort throughout the entire ride. They fit snugly without constricting, keep your muscles warm in the headwind, and their leg length, from short to long, is matched to the temperature.
