Mountain Biking Layering Guide

Mountain Biking
On a mountain bike, hot climbs and cold descents can be minutes apart. Skinfit layering for MTB protects against wind chill, moisture, and cold without restricting your movement.
Baselayer
On a mountain bike, you sweat going uphill and cool down going downhill. The Baselayer prevents the moisture from the climb from becoming a problem on the descent: it keeps it away from your skin and wicks it away to the outside.
Midlayer
The Midlayer retains heat within the system while allowing moisture to escape. On a bike, the cut is crucial: it must accommodate the forward-leaning riding position and must not ride up at the back.
Insulationlayer
The insulation keeps you warm when you're not pedaling: at intersections, on the lift, while waiting for the group. It stores heat with minimal weight and then packs down small into your backpack.
Toplayer
The Toplayer protects against wind, rain, and spray. When mountain biking, it's the layer for the descent, where speed turns cool air into icy air and the trail gets wet from below.
Pants
On a mountain bike, the pants are the only layer on the leg and therefore have to do several things at once: provide comfort throughout the entire tour, full freedom of movement for the knees when pedaling, and protection against splashing water and dirt from the trail.
